Why it tastes salty

In a classic isotonic drink, the concentration of dissolved substances comes from glucose and salt together. This drink has no sugar, so sodium chloride takes over that role. That is why a serving contains 2.5 g of salt and the taste is distinctly salty. People who limit salt in their diet should take this into account.
